The League

Each member is encouraged to join the club leagues or “boxes” as they are more generally known. These operate on a monthly basis from the 1st to the 28th of each month. There are five players in each box. Each player must challenge the two players “below”. In the case of player 4, He/She must challenge players 5 and 1. It is their responsibility to book the courts. It is custom that, when the match is played, each player shall contribute twenty minutes each towards the lighting. At the end of the month, the leagues are taken down, the promotions and relegations worked out by the league secretary, and then put up on the main notice board at the commencement of the following month. For each box, except boxes 1 and 2, the player finishing top is promoted two boxes, the player finishing second is promoted one box, the player finishing third stays in the same box, the player finishing fourth is relegated one box and the player finishing fifth is relegated two boxes. In box 2 the top two players go into box 1. In box 1, the third and fourth finishers are relegated to box 2 and the fifth finisher is relegated to box
3.

The Box Match scoring system is as follows:-
Each match is played for forty minutes, best of five games, standard squash
scoring to 9 points.
You score 1 point for playing the match.
You score 1 point for each game you win.
You score 1 point for winning the match

Examples of scores:— A 3-0 win converts to a 5-1 points score
A 3-2 win converts to a 5-3 points score
2-1 after forty minutes converts to a 3—2 points score.
It is impossible to score 4 points.

In the event of total points being tied, promotion and relegation is decided as follows:—

Firstly: Who won the match(or matches) between them.
Secondly: Who conceded least games during the month.
Lastly: What the original starting position was in the box.

Any disputes are settled, amicably, by the League Secretary.

Unfortunately, from time to time, people default on court bookings. In this case a fines system operates to discourage it from happening. A list of defaulters and the reason for the fine is published on the main notice board and members are asked to settle these as soon as possible.

The golden rule with this system is: “IF IT IS YOUR NAME ON THE BOOKING STICKER, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY”.
